Niamh's Interrail Diary Part 2 - Amsterdam
"Some tourists think Amsterdam is a city of sin, but in truth it is a city of freedom and in freedom, most people find sin". The Fault in Our Stars
So we kicked off our European adventure in the beautiful city of Amsterdam and it certainly didn't disappoint! With its stunning picturesque streets and top quality tourist attractions we weren't short of things to see/do! We spent our time in the Generator Hostel which was ideally located about a 2 minute walk from the tram stop! If you were looking for somewhere to stay which is clean, reasonably priced and friendly staff this is the place for you, however it is a 10 minute tram journey from the city centre!
The streets were crawling with hen and stag parties our first night as we headed to the Red Light District Pub Crawl! 6 pubs, in 3 hours with free drinks in each bar! I'd recommend the pub crawl to anyone as it was a great way of meeting other travellers.
The highlights of our stay in my opinion was the Heineken Brewery and riding bikes around Vondelpark. We spent around 2 hours in the brewery learning all of the history about how Heineken was founded and got a complimentary pint at the end on the rooftop bar! There was a canal boat ride included which finished off at a rooftop lookout near the central train station!
On our last day in Amsterdam we cycled around Vondelpark for an hour! The hustle and bustle of the park is quite intimidating at first and there was quite a few near crashes with other cyclists! However, we emerged unscathed and were like locals come the end of it, thankfully in one piece as we move on to Berlin.
