Niamh's Interrail Diary Part 6 - Lake Bled
Stop number 5 on the trip; Lake Bled! Definitely my favourite destination so far on this once in a lifetime trip! Lake Bled is the most scenic and beautiful place I have ever been and it was a lovely change after being in crowded cities for the first week of our holiday. We had to take two trains and almost didn't make the connection as the first train was delayed but we managed to make it by a split second! Otherwise we would've been waiting another 4 hours for the next train!!
We stayed in 1A adventure hostel which was about a 10 minute drive from the lake itself! The hostel ran a shuttle service every day which dropped the guests at the lake at 10 a.m. And collected us at 7 p.m. The staff were so friendly and helped us to book any activities which we wanted to do during our stay.
On our first day we rented out a rowing boat for an hour and rowed out to the middle of the lake. Our rowing skills were pretty poor but I would definitely recommend it as it was great fun!
On our second day we did the Vintgar Gorge walk which lasted about 2 hours and it was amazing! There was lovely waterfalls everywhere and it was definitely my highlight while staying in Lake Bled.
Dermot and Robyn then traveled about an hour away in the afternoon and did a skydive! Unfortunately myself and Laura couldn't go with them to see it but they said it was one of the best experiences of their lives and they would've gone straight back up if they could!
Our final day in Bled we all went water rafting! We were with a group of Dutch and Australian girls for this activity. The rafting was almost cancelled as there was a storm predicted for later in the evening but they decided to go ahead with it in the end! Fortunately the rain stayed away while we were rafting. We were rafting for around an hour and a half and we were all very sore afterwards as it is quite physically challenging. I thoroughly my stay in Lake Bled and am already planning my next holiday back there!
