Celtic Camino festival

Win Tickets to This Years Celtic Camino Festival!

The Camino de Santiago or the way of Saint James in English is a pilgrimage serving to the shrine of Saint James. The Pilgrimage culminates in Gailicia in North-western Spain in the Cathedral de Compestela where Saint James is laid to rest. Over 200,000 pilgrims, cyclists, adventurers and hikers embark on this epic journey every year.

To celebrate the pilgrimage and as their way of giving back the Camino Society Ireland is hosting the Celtic Camino festival in Westport, Co. Mayo. The Festival will take place from 13-15th April and will treat enthusiasts, adventurers or future pilgrims to a wide range of events and well informed about the pilgrimage itself.

The festival begins on Friday in the W Cinema where a full length feature film by Dónal Ó Céilleachair will be shown. The film tells the story of a crew which embark on a 2,500km journey to Gailicia - by sea and all the ups and down of their journey.

The festival continues on Saturday with talks, presentations and workshops by internationally renowned Camino experts. Attendees will be treated to photo exhibitions, the book of pilgrims, yoga, poetry and other Camino exhibits. The Day continues at the Hotel Westport where a Gala Dinner will be served accompanied by Irish and Spanish Music.

The weekend will naturally conclude with a pilgrim walk. An 18 or 25km walk will begin in Balla on the Croagh Patrick Heritage Trail and continue to Ballintubber Abbey (18km). Pilgrims can then choose to be transferred to Westport or Balla or continue to Killavalley on Tochar Padraig. Pilgrims who complete the 25km journey will receive a Celtic Camino Compostela.
