New entrance to Dublin Pearse Station opens - access to Pearse St & Trinity Bio-Science

 

Minister for Transport, Tourism & Sport Leo Varadkar was at Pearse Station on Tuesday 9th April to officially open the new entrance to the station, which brings customers directly from the station through the Trinity Bio Sciences Building and directly onto Pearse Street.

The new entrance and upgrading of the station was funded by the National Transport Authority and has many customer benefits including:

• Provided a second entrance directly into the Trinity Bio Sciences Building and access onto Pearse Street.

• Provided new lifts and escalators.

• The upgrade has made provision for more commercial units within the station.

• Provision of 11 new ticket validation gates & 4 new ticket vending machines.

• Provision of Bicycle parking facilities for 20 bikes on northbound platform.

• Full accessibility for persons with reduced mobility.

• Allow for growth in passenger numbers into the future.

Speaking at the opening Minister Varadkar said: “This is an important project for passengers because Pearse Station is Iarnród Éireann’s busiest commuter station. As we can see today the results are impressive. It’s a good example of how the Government is prioritising public transport at a time of limited resources, by prioritising projects which encourage more people to take the sustainable option.”

Pearse Station is Iarnród Éireann’s busiest commuter station with 7 million passenger journeys through the station in 2012 the station serves DART, Maynooth and Northern Commuter services as well as Rosslare Intercity services.

Iarnród Éireann Chief Executive David Franks said of the new station facility “Pearse Station is the busiest station on our network, and the work completed on the new East Entrance ensures that we can provide better facilities for existing customers, and cater for growth into the future. We are delighted also to be able to serve Trinity Bio Sciences Building directly, improving access to public transport for those who use this building, as well as opening Pearse Station directly onto Pearse Street.”

The new entrance to the station will be open from 07.00hrs to 19.30hrs daily from Monday to Friday, and on Saturdays from 09.00hrs to 18.00hrs, and is in addition to the main entrance on Westland Row.
