Line improvement works taking place Saturday 13th October

Here you will find a complete list of planned engineering works and changes to Iarnród Éireann rail services.

Service Arrangements

Line Improvement Works

Iarnród Éireann is continuing its programme of line improvement works on selected Saturdays, focusing this year on the section between Newbridge and Ballybrophy.

The annual investment of €10 million in line improvements will lead to higher reliability, smoother running of trains and with other works deliver consistent 160kph speeds (100 mph). This will deliver journey time improvements for customers.

We advise customers to check their journey details prior to travelling. For a full list of available services on your day of travel, please check our Journey Planner for all timetable query or click on your route below for a summary service arrangements;

Belfast Enterprise Services

  • Belfast services will operate as normal

Cork, Limerick and Tralee Services

Saturday 13th October

Due to engineering works taking place between Portarlington and Portlaoise the following service arrangements will apply;

  • Cork services will operate every hour in each direction with altered timings
  • Limerick services will operate every hour, connecting to Cork services at Limerick Junction
  • Tralee services will operate every 2 hours, connecting to Cork services at Mallow
  • 17:05hrs Dublin to Tralee is cancelled. Passengers should board the 17:05hrs Dublin to Cork service and change at Mallow for a connecting service. Please note that there will be a delay of 25 - 30 mins from Mallow to Tralee
  • Nenagh Line services will operate with altered timings, please change at Ballybrophy for connecting services
  • 21:00hrs Dublin Heuston to Cork Kent will operate to Mallow only, bus transfers from Mallow to Cork
  • 22:30hrs Mallow to Cork will operate as a bus transfer
  • 23:00hrs Cork to Mallow will operate as a bus transfer

Services to and from Dublin Heuston and Cork will operate with some minor delays and additonal stops. Please check the Journey Planner or PDF Timetable for more details. 

Saturday 27th October

Due to engineering works taking place between Portarlington and Portlaoise the following service arrangements will apply;

  • 19:45hrs Dublin Heuston to Portlaoise will operate to Portarlington only, bus transfers will operate from Portarlington to Portlaoise
  • 21:00hrs Dublin Heuston to Cork will be bus transfers from Dublin Heuston to Portlaoise and Thurles, followed by a train from Thurles to Cork 
  • 21:05hrs Dublin Heuston to Portlaoise will operate to Portarlington only, bus transfers will operate from Portarlington to Portlaoise
  • 22:10hrs Dublin Heuston to Portlaoise will operate to Portarlington only, bus transfers will operate from Portarlington to Portlaoise
  • 22:02hrs Kildare to Dublin Heuston is advanced to 21:46hrs
  • 21:25hrs Portlaoise to Dublin Heuston will be bus transfers from Portlaoise to Portarlington, followed by a train from Portarlington to Dublin Heuston
  • 20:25hrs Cork to Dublin Heuston will operate to Thurles only, bus transfers will operate from Thurles to Portlaoise, Portarlington, Monasterevin, Kildare, Newbridge and Dublin Heuston
  • 22:30hrs Portlaoise to Dublin Heuston will be bus transfers from Portlaoise to Portarlington, followed by a train from Portarlington to Dublin Heuston

Sunday 28th October

Due to engineering works taking place between Portarlington and Portlaoise the following service arrangements will apply;

  • 08:30hrs Dublin Heuston to Tralee will be bus transfers from Dublin Heuston to Portlaoise and Thurles, followed by a train from Thurles to Tralee
  • 10:45hrs Mallow to Cork is deferred to 11:28hrs
  • 10:08hrs Limerick Junction to Limerick is deferred to 10:53hrs

Cork Commuters

Due to of engineering works between Glounthaune and Cobh, the following Cobh services will be substituted by bus transfers;

Monday 5th to Friday 9th November inclusive

  • 10:00hrs Cork to Cobh
  • 11:00hrs Cork to Cobh
  • 12:00hrs Cork to Cobh
  • 13:00hrs Cork to Cobh
  • 14:00hrs Cork to Cobh
  • 15:00hrs Cork to Cobh
  • 10:30hrs Cobh to Cork
  • 11:30hrs Cobh to Cork
  • 12:30hrs Cobh to Cork
  • 13:30hrs Cobh to Cork
  • 14:30hrs Cobh to Cork
  • 15:30hrs Cobh to Cork

DART Services

Due to engineering works taking place between Connolly and Dun Laoghaire and Bray and Greystones the following services arrangements will apply;

Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th October

No DART service will operate between Dublin Connolly and Dun Laoghaire, intermediate DART stations will be closed.

  • Dublin Pearse and Tara Street station will be closed on both Saturday and Sunday
  • DART services will operate between Dublin Connolly to/from Howth and Malahide, Dun Laoghaire to/from Bray only

Dublin Bus will accept valid rail tickets for travel within the affected areas

Monday 29th October

Due to engineering works between Bray and Greystones the following service arrangements will apply;

  • Line is closed between Bray and Greystones - DART's will operate to and from Bray only
  • Dublin Bus will accept valid rail tickets for travel within the affected area

Rosslare services will operate to and from Dublin Connolly to Bray with bus transfers from Bray to Greystones. The service will then resume by train from Greystone to Rosslare.

Galway and Westport Services

Saturday 13th October

Due to engineering works taking place between Portarlington and Portlaoise there will be minor delays to some services and the following alterations will apply;

  • 09:25hrs Dublin Heuston to Galway will call additonally at Newbridge, Kildare and Monasterevin
  • 11:25hrs Dublin Heuston to Galway will call additonally at Newbridge, Kildare and Monasterevin
  • 13:25hrs Dublin Heuston to Galway will call additonally at Newbridge, Kildare and Monasterevin 
  • 15:35hrs Dublin Heuston to Galway will call additonally at Newbridge, Kildare and Monasterevin 
  • 16:30hrs Dublin Heuston to Galway will call additonally at Portarlington and Monasterevin
  • 17:30hrs Dublin Heuston to Galway will call additonally at Kildare and Monasterevin
  • 18:30hrs Dublin Heuston to Galway will call additonally at Kildare 
  • 19:35hrs Dublin Heuston to Galway will call additonally at Newbridge, Kildare and Monasterevin
  • Services from Galway to Dublin Heuston will make additonal stops. 
  • Services to and from Dublin Heuston and Westport will make additonal stops.

Northern Commuter

Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th October

Due to engineering works taking place between Dublin Connolly and Dun Laoghaire and Bray and Greystones the following services arrangements will apply;

  • Northern and Maynooth commuters will only be able to travel to and from Dublin Connolly only as there will be no connecting services for Tara street and Dublin Pearse
  • Tara street and Dublin Pearse stations will be closed

Portlaoise Commuter Services

Rosslare Services

Saturday 27th October

Due to engineering works between Dublin Pearse and Dun Laoghaire, Bray and Greystones the following service arrangements will apply;

  • 06:45hrs Gorey to Dundalk will operate to Greystones only, a bus transfer will operate from Greystones to Dublin Connolly, followed by a second train at 08:50hrs from Dublin Connolly to Dundalk 
  • 07:20hrs Rosslare Europort to Dublin Connolly will operate to Greystones only, a bus transfer will operate from Greystones to Dublin Connolly
  • 09:40hrs Dublin Connolly to Rosslare Europort will be a bus transfer from Dublin Connolly to Greystones, followed by a train Greystones to Rosslare Europort
  • 12:55hrs Rosslare Europort to Dublin Connolly will be deferred to 13:15hrs and will operate to Greystones only, a bus transfer will operate from Greystones to Dublin Connolly
  • 13:36hrs Dublin Connolly to Rosslare Europort will be a bus transfer from Dublin Connolly to Greystones, followed by a train Greystones to Rosslare Europort
  • 17:55hrs Rosslare Europort to Dublin Connolly will operate to Greystones only, a bus transfer will operate from Greystones to Dublin Connolly
  • 18:38hrs Dublin Connolly to Rosslare Europort will be a bus transfer from Dublin Connolly to Greystones, followed by a train Greystones to Rosslare Europort

Sunday 28th October

Due to engineering works between Dublin Pearse and Dun Laoghaire, Bray and Greystones the following service arrangements will apply;

  • 09:30hrs Rosslare Europort to Dublin Connolly will operate to Greystones only, a bus transfer will operate from Greystones to Dublin Connolly
  • 09:45hrs Dublin Connolly to Rosslare Europort will be a bus transfer from Dublin Connolly to Greystones, followed by a train Greystones to Rosslare Europort
  • 13:45hrs Dublin Connolly to Rosslare Europort will be bus a transfer from Dublin Connolly to Greystones, followed by a train Greystones to Rosslare Europort
  • 14:20hrs Rosslare Europort to Dublin Connolly will operate to Greystones only, a bus transfer will operate from Greystones to Dublin Connolly
  • 18:05hrs Rosslare Europort to Dublin Connolly will operate to Greystones only, a bus transfer will operate from Greystones to Dublin Connolly
  • 18:45hrs Dublin Connolly to Rosslare Europort will be bus a transfer from Dublin Connolly to Greystones, followed by a train Greystones to Rosslare Europort

Monday 29th October

Due to engineering works between Dublin Pearse and Dun Laoghaire, Bray and Greystones the following service arrangements will apply;

  • 09:30hrs Rosslare Europort to Dublin Connolly will operate to Greystones only, bus transfers will operate from Greystones to Bray, followed by a DART from Bray to Dublin Connolly
  • 09:45hrs Dublin Connolly to Rosslare Europort will operate to Bray only, bus transfers will operate from Bray to Greystones, a second train will operate from Greystones to Rosslare Europort
  • 13:45hrs Dublin Connolly to Rosslare Europort will operate to Bray only, bus transfers will operate from Bray to Greystones, followed by a second train Greystones to Rosslare Europort
  • 14:20hrs Rosslare Europort to Connolly will operate to Greystones only, bus transfers will operate from Greystones to Bray, followed by a DART from Bray to Dublin Connolly
  • 18:05hrs Rosslare Europort to Dublin Connolly will operate to Greystones only, bus transfers will operate from Greystones to Bray, followed by a DART from Bray to Dublin Connolly
  • 18:45hrs Dublin Connolly to Rosslare Europort will operate to Bray only, bus transfers will operate from Bray to Greystones, followed by a second train Greystones to Rosslare Europort

The following sevices will be substituted by bus transfers:

Due to engineering works taking place between Portarlington and Portlaoise the following service arrangements will apply;

  • 09:40hrs Limerick Junction to Waterford is deferred to 10:00hrs
  • 18:40hrs Limerick Junction to Waterford is deferred to 19:15hrs 

The following sevices will be substituted by bus transfers:

  • 16:35hrs Waterford to Limerick Junction
  • 19:15hrs Limerick Junction to Waterford

Catering on Rail Iarnród Éireann Services

On affected services, a trolley service will be provided on all InterCity services. Dining car and restaurant car facilities will not be available.

How can I reserve a seat on an Iarnród Éireann Service?

When you purchase an Adult, Child or Student ticket on this website or through our call centre (01-8366222) you are given an assigned seat as part of the price

Customers who are already in possession of or purchasing on the day of travel a valid standard class ticket(s) such as Family Tickets, Day Return, Open Return, Weekly, Monthly, Annual, InterRail and Free Travel pass holders can reserve a seat on a service for a small fee per person each way
