Line Improvement Works to/from Heuston - Revised Timetable Sat 3rd December

Customers using our services to and from Heuston, and all connecting services are advised to re-check your times before travelling on affected dates.

Iarnród Éireann is commencing a programme of line improvement works on the Dublin to Cork line, focusing this year on the section between Hazelhatch and Portlaoise.

The initial investment in 2015 of €10 million in line improvements will lead to higher reliability, smoother running of trains and with other works deliver consistent 160kph speeds (100 mph) by the end of 2016 on this section. This will deliver journey time improvements for customers.

Service arrangements

To facilitate these works, there will be service changes on selected Saturdays* this year. Works will not take place during the peak tourism and sporting season of August, or on Saturdays of other major events i.e. sporting and concerts etc. There will be some minor modifications to service arrangements subject to precise work locations as the project proceeds.

Cork/Dublin, Limerick/Dublin and Tralee/Dublin

Saturday 3rd December:

  • Cork/Dublin/Cork services will operate every two hours in each direction, with higher capacity on all services.
  • Limerick/Dublin/Limerick services will operate every two hours, connecting to/from all Dublin/Cork/Dublin services at Limerick Junction.
  • Tralee/Dublin services will operate every two hours, connecting to/from Dublin/Cork/Dublin services at Mallow.
  • 07:00 Tralee/Dublin is advanced to 06:55hrs, customers please change trains at Mallow for all stations to Cork & Dublin.
  • 17:05hrs Dublin/Tralee is cancelled. Passengers should board the 17:05hrs Dublin/Cork service and change at Mallow. Please note that there will be a delay of 40 mins from Mallow to Tralee.
  • Customers for Ballybrophy and Nenagh Line should change at Portlaoise for connecting services. 07.10hrs & 15.15hrs Limerick/Portlaoise via Nenagh, 10.33hrs & 18.30hrs Portlaoise/Limerick via Nenagh, and 19.10hrs Heuston/Cork will be the only trains to serve Ballybrophy.
  • 21.20hrs Heuston/Cork will split at Limerick Jctn. Customers for Mallow and Cork should board the front 4 carriages, and customers for Limerick should board the rear 4 carriages.
  • Passengers travelling on the 20.50hrs Cork to Heuston and intermediate stations will be a train from Cork to Portlaoise and a bus transfer from Portlaoise to Heuston. This will also affect customers travelling on the 20.50hrs from Limerick to Dublin

Galway/Dublin and Westport/Dublin

Saturday 3rd December:

  • Services between Galway and Dublin will operateevery two hours in each direction.
  • Westport services will operate to / from Athlone with connections to / from Galway services.
  • 07:15 Westport/Dublin is advanced to 06:35hrs and 13:10 Galway/Dublin is advanced to 12:45hrs. Customers please change trains at Athlone for all stations to Galway & Dublin.
  • 07:05 Ballina/Manulla Junction is advanced to 06:25hrs and 13.00 Ballina/Manulla Junction is advanced to 12:35 hrs and 16:55 Ballina/Manulla Junction is advanced to 16:53 hrs

Waterford/Dublin

Saturday 3rd December:

Portlaoise and Kildare to Dublin Commuter services

Saturday 3rd December:

  • Portlaoise commuter services will operate hourly between Dublin Heuston and Hazelhatch only, with the exception of 07:15s Portlaoise/Heuston, and 22:35hrs Heuston/Portlaoise services which will operate.
  • There will be no other commuter services between Portlaoise, Kildare and Dublin. However customers travelling to/from Portlaoise, Portarlington, Monasterevin, Kildare, Newbridge and Sallins & Naas and Hazelhatch & Celbridge will be served by InterCity trains.

Catering

On affected Saturdays, a trolley service will be provided on all InterCity services to / from Heuston. Dining car and restaurant car facilities will not be available.

First Class

On affected Saturdays, first class facilities will not be available.

If you have already booked a train on an affected date which has seen a change in time or seating availability, we will contact you to reschedule your booking, or offer a full refund.

How can I reserve a seat?

  • When you purchase an Adult, Child or Student ticket on this website or through our call centre (1850 366 222) you are given an assigned seat as part of the price.
  • Customers who are already in possession of or purchasing on the day of travel a valid standard class ticket(s) such as Family Tickets, Day Return, Open Return, Weekly, Monthly, Annual, InterRail and Free Travel pass holders can reserve a seat on a service for €5.00 per person each way.
