Diagnostic Engineer – 22000 Class ICR Fleet

Location: Laois Train Care Depot

It is an exciting time to be a part of Irish Rail’s busy Chief Mechanical Engineers (CME) Department. Applications for a Diagnostic Engineer for our 22000 Class ICR Fleet are now open.

This successful candidate will be responsible for developing and managing analysis data systems, provide trend analysis data to the management and technical teams. The role focuses on identifying complex issues across mechanical, electrical and electronic systems to ensure optimal fleet performance, reliability and compliance with safety standards.

Reporting to the Assistant Depot Manager - Laois Train Care Depot, this role involves working relationships across multiple departments and stakeholders within CME and across the business.

The Chief Mechanical Engineers Department provides a critical function to the Railway Undertaking business operating in a high compliance, fast paced and multiple demand atmosphere.

Interested candidates must demonstrate the following criteria:

Essential

Level 8 Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
Knowledge and experience of railway maintenance procedures, depot operations, depot processes and repair practices.
Proficiency in the use of diagnostic software and data analysis tools.
Working knowledge of EN50126 standards and RAMS principles.
Working knowledge of SAP/ BI7/ Power BI/ MS office suite.
Working knowledge of fleet monitoring systems (Nexala, RailBAM, Trimble, TOPS).
Strong safety awareness / knowledge.
Ability to implement and follow high quality standards.
Ability to forecast, plan and organise workload effectively and through the use of clear structure

Desirable

Minimum 3 years’ experience in rail, automotive, or aerospace diagnostics.
Experience with DMU fleets.
Familiarity with condition-based maintenance strategies.

Ability to interpret technical manuals, product descriptions, schematics and wiring diagrams.
Communication, interpersonal and relationship building skills.
Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.

A number of elements, including presentation and a competency-based interview will form part of this selection process. Assessments may also form part of the selection process.
