Financial Accountant, Chief Mechanical Engineer

Chief Mechanical Engineer (CME) Department

Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail is inviting applications for the role of Financial Accountant, CME (Chief Mechanical Engineer Department). This is an exciting opportunity focused on the efficient delivery of financial governance and reporting to key stakeholders within the Chief Mechanical Engineer Department. 


The role is key for supporting both operational and strategic financial initiatives across the Business Unit. The successful candidate will report to the Finance Manager, CME, and work closely with all CME units.   The role holder will assist in managing the financial control requirements of the Business Unit.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Periodic financial reporting
  • Financial planning and financial forecast management
  • Cost centre expenditure reporting

Essential Criteria:

Applicants must demonstrate:

  • Professionally qualified accountant (ACCA, ACA, CIMA or equivalent).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience in Periodic/Monthly Accounting cycle.
  • Experience in analysing big data.
  • Ability to manage priorities across multi stakeholders and managing tight deadlines.
  • Highly self-motivated and driven to deliver on requirements and also identify opportunities and areas for improvement.
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Office with particular proficiency in the Excel package.
  • Ability to work as part of a finance team and with team members who are not from a financial background.
  • Forecasting/Budgeting preparation and analysis.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Minimum 2+ years post-qualification experience.
  • An ability to meet tight deadlines consistently providing timely, accurate and relevant financial data, and to take end-to-end ownership for delivery.
  • Adaptability and initiative, strong sense of integrity and responsibility.
  • Practical financial control experience and a track record of operating at a high level in the organization.
  • Periodic/ Monthly accounting experience with ability to plan, monitor, and reporting on deliverables within a team.
  • Good working knowledge of SAP or similar ERP systems.
