Risk Analyst
Location: Dublin 8
An exciting opportunity has arisen for the position of Risk Analyst within the Chief Mechanical Engineer’s Department, based in Dublin 8.
We are specifically seeking candidates with railway or heavy industry experience who are passionate about safety, risk management, and technical excellence.
About the Role
The successful candidate will join the Chief Mechanical Engineer’s (CME) Department within Iarnród Éireann, Ireland’s national railway provider. This department operates in a high-compliance, fast-paced environment with multiple competing demands and plays a critical role within the Railway Undertaking business.
This role offers the opportunity to contribute directly to the safe and efficient operation of Ireland’s rail network.
Key Responsibilities
The Risk Analyst will:
- Support the CME business as a technical risk expert to successfully manage fleet and occupational risk
- Assess and evaluate potential risks and uncertainties associated with engineering projects
- Utilise statistical analysis and modelling techniques to quantify and prioritise risks
- Develop risk mitigation strategies and recommend actions to minimise project vulnerabilities
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather and analyse data related to project risks
- Generate comprehensive risk reports and communicate findings to stakeholders
- Stay up to date with industry regulations and best practices to ensure compliance and safety
- Continuously monitor and update risk assessments as project conditions evolve
- Assist in the development of contingency plans to address unforeseen events
- Support decision-making processes by providing data-driven insights on risk exposure
- Contribute to the overall risk management framework and culture within the engineering department
Candidate Requirements
Essential
- Qualification, experience, and demonstrable expertise in risk assessment and risk management
- Technical knowledge and experience in railway or heavy industry
- Ability to manage resources effectively
- Strong safety focus and safety knowledge
- Effective planning and organising skills
- Ability to work on own initiative
- Strong presentation and communication skills
- Understanding of the regulatory environment and systems such as CSM Risk
- Experience using risk assessment methods such as BowTie, Zonal Hazard Analysis, FMEA, Fault Tree Analysis, etc.
Desirable
- 5+ years’ experience in a risk-focused role, including quantitative analysis
- Understanding of railway operations
- Knowledge of railway vehicle and component design
- Experience with traction and rolling stock maintenance/overhaul
- Understanding of technologies and environments associated with rail transportation
- Good understanding of commercial and legal aspects of system risk
- Knowledge of relevant standards (e.g., CSM REA, ISO 12100, RAMS)
- Interest in statistics, pattern recognition, and data trend analysis

The successful candidate will initially join on a 12-month Fixed-Term Contract.
