  • You can purchase the ticket above using our Journey Planner. Tickets can only be purchased up to 90 days in advance.
  • An allocation of bookings on all InterCity services can be reserved online without a fee for 'Free Travel Pass or valid ticket holders'. When this allocation is fully booked, all remaining seats can be reserved by 'Free Travel Pass or valid ticket holders' for €2.50 per journey.

Technical Assistant, Capital Investments – Iarnród Éireann

Capital Investments are seeking suitably qualified candidates for the position of Technical Assistant. This is an exciting opportunity to join an expanding team at a time of huge growth and investment.

The successful candidate will provide professional support to the Manager, Structural Design Section, Network Enhancements, Capital Investments, Inchicore Works for the management of Civil & Structural Engineering projects.

Responsibilities

The range of duties include but are not limited to:

  • To comply with the general duties of Safety, Health, and Welfare at Work Act 2005.
  • To Comply with Iarnród Éireann Safety Statement
  • Undertake audits, as required by the Manager Structural Design, to ensure robust safety management systems and emergency arrangements are in place.
  • Assist in the continuous improvement of Capital Investments and Engineering systems and processes.
  • Assist, as required by the Manager Structural Design, in the preparation of project plans for all projects managed by the Structural & Architectural Design Section
  • Ensure all hours worked by staff are accurately captured against appropriate chargeable and non-chargeable items.
  • Observe all Iarnród Éireann Capital Investments and Infrastructure Maintainer policies, standards and procedures and facilitate compliance with the Company’s Safety Management System in respect of your sphere of influence.
  • Represent the Structural & Architectural Design Section and/or Capital Investments at meetings with internal and external bodies in relation to your areas of responsibility and ensure that corporate policy is followed in the decisions/actions taken regarding the outcome of such interaction.
  • Comply with the requirements of the Safety Responsibility Statement for the position.
  • Advance the targets detailed in the current Iarnród Éireann Safety Plan and any other corporate or departmental safety initiative.
  • Demonstrate compliance with safety responsibilities as shown by:
  • Overall safety performance and accident/incident records in the areas under your control.
  • Appropriateness and adequacy of staff skills, standards working policies, procedures, and systems in operation in the area under your control.

Key Qualities

Essential

  • A Diploma in Structural and/or Civil Engineering or equivalent
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a Structural and/or Civil Engineering Design office
  • A strong working knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD, CADS RC, Civils 3D and other related design & draughting software
  • An excellent working knowledge of current bridge and structural engineering design detailing
  • A good working knowledge of Health & Safety issues in a construction/rail environment
  • Availability to work occasional weekend and/or night shifts.
  • Full Drivers Licence

Desirable

  • Some experience working in a railway environment.
  • Experience in managing and delivering technical drawings for Structural and Civil Engineering projects.
  • Experience in managing contracts on site.
  • Experience in maintaining an information management system.

Interview Competencies

  • Experience with civil engineering/construction design / site management.
  • Technical expertise & knowledge - Engineering
  • Excellent Interpersonal & communication skills
  • Demonstrable ability in planning and organising.
  • Problem solving/Judgement.
