Éireann has unveiled details of its plan to develop a new rail station in the Cabra area of Dublin, on the existing Phoenix Park Tunnel line. The company today launched a public information campaign to inform the Cabra community about the station proposals, ahead of a forthcoming planning application.\u003C/p>\n\u003Cp>Documentation and plans will be on display at the Deaf Village Ireland Campus, Cabra from today until 2\u003Csup>nd\u003C/sup> July (opening hours 9am to 10pm Monday to Thursday, Friday 9am to 9pm, Saturday 10am to 8pm and Sunday 10am to 6pm). Information is also available to view at \u003Ca href=\"/new-stations/cabra?uh=f621643a819f9f77148cbf32177036094854655ff84d4d8053f33a76d268bdd0\">www.irishrail.ie/new-stations/cabra.\u003C/a>\u003C/p>\n\u003Cp>Funded by the Department of Transport, through the National Transport Authority, the new station will provide rail access for up to 26,000 people living within one km of the station, offering direct and frequent services to Dublin city centre. The new station will also provide greater connectivity to Commuter stations between ParkWest and Newbridge.  It will also connect commuters to the south and west of the country, including Cork, Limerick and Galway, via the planned new station at Heuston West, which is to be constructed as part of the DART+ South West project.\u003C/p>\n\u003Cp>Services on this line currently run between Newbridge / Hazelhatch & Celbridge and Dublin Connolly / Grand Canal Dock. During the public consultation for the DART+ South West project - which will boost frequency and capacity of services on the route - a significant number of local residents requested that a new station at Cabra be considered. Iarnród Éireann has taken this feedback on board and following a feasibility study are now proposing to progress the development of a new rail station in Cabra.\u003C/p>\n\u003Cp>Subject to planning being granted, construction of the new station at Cabra will be delivered in conjunction with the \u003Ca href=\"https://www.dartplus.ie/en-ie/home\" data-new-window=\"true\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">DART+ Programme\u003C/a> works.\u003C/p>\n\u003Cp>Located in the centre of Cabra, the new station will provide excellent public transport interchange opportunities, with the proposed Dublin BusConnects routes passing along the adjacent R147 Cabra Road, as well as local cycle routes running along the R805 Old Cabra Road. There is also potential for Interchange with the proposed new Glasnevin station for connections to the Metrolink once in service. It is also approximately 20-minutes by foot from the new station to the TUD campus at Grangegorman.\u003C/p>\n\u003Cp>Iarnród Éireann plans to commence work on a planning application in early 2026.\u003C/p>\n\u003Cp>Speaking at the launch of the information campaign, Jim Meade, Chief Executive of Iarnród Éireann said\u003Cem>: \"The provision of this new station at Cabra demonstrates the power of public consultation. The public spoke and we listened. This station will provide excellent connectivity for the residents of Cabra. The railway line has always been part of Cabra, but yet the community has not been rail connected. This is about to change and change for the better\"\u003C/em>\u003C/p>\n\u003Cp>NTA Head of Rail Investment Marcello Corsi said\u003Cem>: \"NTA very much welcomes this progress on the project and we would encourage people to use this opportunity to find out about the benefits it will deliver for their community.\u003C/em>\u003C/p>\n\u003Cp>\u003Cem>\"The development of rail a station at Cabra was a key component for this area in NTA's GDA Transport Strategy, and is part of an overall plan to make an improved rail network available to a greater number of people across the region.\"\u003C/em>\u003C/p>\n\u003Cp>Minister for Transport, Darragh O'Brien, said: \u003Cem>\"I am delighted to support the launch of this public information today for the development of a new rail station in Cabra.\u003C/em>\u003C/p>\n\u003Cp>\u003Cem>The addition of the new rail station will be transformational for the local community, offering a significant boost in sustainable public transport. The station will be on the Phoenix Park Tunnel line and planned DART+ South West route, providing rail, bus and tram connections across Dublin and further afield.
