SDG Week: watch out for our sustainability stations

25 September 2023

We are marking #SDGWeek with Sustainability Stations from Iarnród Éireann, with Colm O'Regan, comic and author.

As an SDG Champion, Iarnród Éireann is marking Sustainable Development Goals Week 2023 (SDG Week) with Sustainability Stations, presented by Colm O'Regan - comic and author of Climate Worrier: A Hypocrite's Guide to Saving the Planet.

Colm will be bringing you through some of the most important UN Sustainable Development Goals, with tips - in his inimitable way - as to how to apply them in our day to day lives.

He starts our journey with SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy

Colm reminds us that energy is in everything; from the diesel burned to get to the grocery store, to the energy used to make the container used for the item you bought, to the energy needed to collect the waste left in the rubbish bin.

Iarnród Éireann is helping to do its part by adding solar panels on new facilities and ensuring commuters are able to use fractions of energy making their commute vs using their own car.

And as Colm says, if you think people talk about the weather a lot now, just imagine when the weather plays a part in the generation of Affordable and Clean Energy...! #SDGWeek

Read more about Iarnród Éireann's Sustainability Strategy here.

Next up, it's SDG 15: Life on Land!

As Colm says, while Irish biodiversity might not be exciting enough to warrant a David Attenborough documentary, all creatures great and small play an important role in the world around us. From dandelions to wasps, see what you need to know to help the biodiversity around us.
