Public Consultation underway on plans to increase Greystones DART frequency by 50%
21 Deireadh Fómhair 2025
Public consultation has today commenced on the Emerging Preferred Option for DART + Coastal South Stage 1 between Bray and Greystones. The project will deliver a 50 percent increase in frequency from two to three trains per hour in both directions between Bray and Greystones. The public consultation will run from today until 4th December.
The project will deliver this through a series of proposed infrastructure interventions including:
- Upgrade of Ennis Lane Level Crossing to a CCTV controlled level crossing
- Track alignment modifications between Bray and Greystones
- Shortening of Platform 1 within Bray (Daly) Station to facilitate installation of new track crossover which will improve capability for trains to pass within the station, while still accommodating full-length DARTs
- General upgrades to existing signalling, telecoms and power supply systems
Iarnród Éireann is requesting that members of the public examine the proposals; feedback received will assist in the ongoing design process. Details of the project and how to engage are available to view at dartplus.ie. In person events and an information webinar will also be held:
- Greystones area public display, Greystones Library on 23rd October from 15:00hrs to 18:30hrs
- Bray area public engagement event, Little Flower Hall, Bray on 29th October from 15:00hrs to 18:30hrs
- Public Webinar on 19th November from 12:30hrs to 13:30hrs (to register please email dartcoastalsouth@irishrail.ie)
The Project is funded by the Department of Transport through the National Transport Authority. It is expected that a planning application will be made on this project in Q3 2026. Subject to planning being granted and funding being allocated it is expected that construction will commence in 2028 with a construction period of approximately two years.
Hugh Creegan, Interim Chief Executive from National Transport Authority said:
“The NTA welcomes the next phase of the DART+ programme being brought forward to consultation. Enhancing rail services to the south-east is a key element of the NTA Greater Dublin Area Transport Strategy 2022-2042 and will benefit the growing communities in Greystones and the surrounding areas with enhancing connectivity and accessibility by sustainable modes.”
Mary Considine, Chief Executive of Iarnród Éireann said:
“It is great to see the planning phase underway for DART+ Coastal South, which is a key piece of our DART+ Infrastructure. It will provide much needed extra capacity for Greystones commuters, something that the community has long campaigned for, and part of a wider programme that will double capacity and treble electrification of rail services in the Greater Dublin area.”
