Mary Considine, Chief Executive of Iarnród Éireann said:
“Our longstanding partnership with Focus Ireland at this time of year ensures we can help to support Focus Ireland’s efforts to combat homelessness at a time when so many travel home for Christmas with us. As well as enabling our customers to support Focus Ireland through station activities, this year An Turas Abhaile The Journey Home celebrates the arts through folk and Irish music, and the Irish language, part of our wider efforts to support creativity in the community and widen our service provision through Irish.”
Lorraine Toner, Head of National Community Fundraising said,
"As over one million people a week travel home on the train from a day at work or a shopping trip, they are making a journey home. This is something which is not possible for everyone across Ireland as there are so many people homeless. Focus Ireland, with the backing of Iarnród Éireann, are committed to changing this.”
She added:
“There are now over 16,000 people homeless, and it is truly heart breaking to see that over 5,100 of these are children. We must always remember that behind these shocking statistics are real people that need our help to secure a place to call home. The concert will be a lovely evening and one that will directly help the work of Focus Ireland."
