What are the conditions of travel?

Customers who are already in possession of or purchasing on the day of travel a valid standard class ticket(s) such as Family Tickets, Day Return, Open Return, Weekly, Monthly, Annual, InterRail and Free Travel pass holders can book on their chosen service by selecting the 'Free Travel Pass or Valid Ticket' option. Customers are advised there is limited availability for seat only reservations online.

  • You can purchase the ticket above using our Journey Planner. Tickets can only be purchased up to 90 days in advance.
  • An allocation of bookings on all InterCity services can be reserved online without a fee for 'Free Travel Pass or valid ticket holders'. When this allocation is fully booked, all remaining seats can be reserved by 'Free Travel Pass or valid ticket holders' for €2.50 per journey.

Due to Engineering Works between Portarlington and Athlone the following service alterations and amendments will take place;
  • 17:30 Heuston to Galway will operate to Portarlington only, bus transfers direct from Portarlington to Athlone, second bus transfer from Portarlington to Tullamore, Clara and Athlone, second train departing at 19:45  from Athlone to Galway 
  • 18:30 Heuston to Galway is cancelled
  • 19:35 Heuston to Galway will operate as and will operate to Portarlington only, bus transfers direct from Portarlington to Athlone, second bus transfer from Portarlington to Tullamore and Athlone, second train departing at 21:40  from Athlone to Galway 
  • 17:20 Galway to Heuston will operate as and will operate to Athlone only, bus transfers direct from Athlone to Portarlington, second bus transfer from Athlone to Tullamore and Portarlington, second train departing at 19:45  from Portarlington to Heuston 
  • 19:20 Galway to Heuston will operate as and will operate to Athlone only, bus transfers direct from Athlone to Portarlington, second bus transfer from Athlone to Clara, Tullamore and Portarlington, second train departing at 22:15  from Portarlington to Heuston 
  • 14:45 Heuston to Westport will operate as

  • 20:32 Ballina to Manulla Junction is deferred to 21:35
