August Bank Holiday services 2025

29 July 2025

Extra DARTs for Bray Air Display; major works affecting Northern Commuter / Enterprise (Sat to Mon); Midleton line (Sat & Sun), Westport line (Sat)

Iarnród Éireann has reminded customers of revised train times across the August Bank Holiday weekend.  Changes to services include:

  • Additional DART services for the Bray Air Display (Saturday 2nd August)
  • A series of line works from Saturday 2nd to Monday 4th August, which will see the line closed between Malahide and Dundalk, will see all Northern Commuter services suspended, with some bus transfer arrangements in place, and Enterprise services will be part-substituted by bus transfers
  • On Saturday and Sunday, track works for the installation of a second track between Glounthaune and Midleton will continue, with bus transfers operating between the two stations
  • On Saturday, bridge works between Roscommon and Ballyhaunis, with bus transfer operating between the two stations for Dublin / Westport services
  • From Sunday, to facilitate Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann events taking place on Wexford Quay, Dublin Connolly to Rosslare Europort services will operate from Dublin Connolly to Wexford, with bus transfer arrangements for customers travelling to/from Rosslare Strand and Rosslare Europort
  • General bank holiday service changes across all routes

Customers are advised to check times before travel, and to book Intercity travel in advance – particularly at busiest times – at this website or the Iarnród Éireann app.

Line works affecting Northern Commuter and Enterprise, Saturday 2nd to Monday 4th August

Due to a series of works taking place between Malahide and Dundalk from Saturday 2nd to Monday 4th August inclusive, including track renewal works, overhead line works for new battery-electric trains and track works at Drogheda, and accessibility works at Rush & Lusk, the following service alterations are in place across the August Bank Holiday weekend:

  • Dublin to Belfast Enterprise: Services will be replaced by bus transfers between Dublin and Drogheda/Dundalk to a revised timetable.  Check irishrail.ie for details, and revised times.
  • Dublin to Drogheda/Dundalk Commuter: No trains will operate between Malahide and Drogheda/Dundalk.  A limited bus substitution service will operate with full details at irishrail.ie – it will operate two routes between:
    •  Drogheda, Balbriggan, Donabate and Connolly
    •  Skerries, Rush and Lusk, and Connolly

Bray Air Display, Saturday 2nd August

Customers travelling to and from the Bray Air Display, and for other purposes by DART on Saturday 2nd August, are advised to plan travel carefully.  In particular, customers are urged to:

  • Travel early if attending the Air Display, and allow extra time for your journey, as high numbers disembarking trains will result in some delays. It is advised to commence your journey by 11:00hrs, as southbound services will be extremely busy.
  • If you are not attending the Bray Air Display, and have flexibility in when you travel, please travel away from event times.
  • Extra DARTs will operate before and after the Air Display, and extra staff will be present across the DART network to assist customers and manage capacity.
  • Take water, and stay hydrated, and please note alcohol is not permitted on board.
  • Follow the direction of Iarnród Éireann staff, event organisers and Gardaí at all times
  • Bikes will not be permitted on board DART and Commuter services on this date to maximise capacity

Glouthaune to Midleton, twin-track works, Saturday 2nd to Sunday 3rd August

Works to upgrade the Glounthaune to Midleton line from single track to twin track, part of the Cork Area Commuter Rail investment programme, will continue over Saturday and Sunday.

  • For Cork to Midleton services, bus transfers will operate between Glouthaune and Midleton on Saturday and Sunday as a result. Cobh services are unaffected.

The Cork Area Commuter Rail Progamme is funded by the European Union Recovery and Resilience Facility (EURRF) and the National Transport Authority.

Roscommon to Ballyhaunis, bridge works, Saturday 2nd August

Due to bridge works taking place between Roscommon and Ballyhaunis on Saturday 2nd August:

  • Dublin to Westport services will operate with bus transfers between Athlone and Ballyhaunis in both directions on Saturday.

Maynooth line works - Sunday night, 3rd August

As part of signalling works, the following services are cancelled:

  • 22:17hrs and 23:27hrs Dublin Connolly to Maynooth
  • 22:48hrs and23:10hrs Maynooth to Dublin Connolly

Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, from Sunday 3rd to Sunday 10th August inclusive

Between Sunday 3rd and Sunday 10th August, most scheduled services between Dublin Connolly and Rosslare Europort will operate between Dublin Connolly and Wexford only, with bus transfer arrangements in place for customers travelling to/from Rosslare Strand and Rosslare Europort.

This is to facilitate the Garda and event organisers event plan, which will see thousands of people on Wexford Quay, through which the railway line runs unprotected.

Arrangements for travel to/from Rosslare Strand and Rosslare Europort are as follows from Sunday 3rd to Sunday 10th August inclusive:

  • On Sunday 3rd August, 09:45hrs Rosslare Europort to Dublin Connolly operates as normal
  • All other scheduled Rosslare Europort to Dublin Connolly services will commence from Wexford. Bus transfers will operate from Rosslare Europort and Rosslare Strand to Wexford (before 10:00hrs) and to Enniscorthy at all other times.  After 10:00hrs,  those travelling from Rosslare Europort and Rosslare Strand to Wexford can avail of TFI LocalLink Route 387 each day.
  • All scheduled Dublin Connolly to Rosslare Europort services will operate from Dublin Connolly to Wexford only. Bus transfers will operate from Wexford to Rosslare Strand and Rosslare Europort.

Scheduled Dublin/Gorey and Dublin/Wexford services will operate as normal, with the evening 22:15hrs Gorey to Connolly extended to commence from Wexford at 21:35hrs.

Further additional services to/from Wexford for next week during Fleadh Cheoil will be confirmed shortly.

General Bank Holiday service changes

Customers are advised to check times before travel for Bank Holiday service alterations at this website and the Iarnród Éireann app.

Customers should particularly note:

  • Revised Intercity timetables on Sunday 3rd and Monday 4th August
