  • You can purchase the ticket above using our Journey Planner. Tickets can only be purchased up to 90 days in advance.
  • An allocation of bookings on all InterCity services can be reserved online without a fee for 'Free Travel Pass or valid ticket holders'. When this allocation is fully booked, all remaining seats can be reserved by 'Free Travel Pass or valid ticket holders' for €2.50 per journey.

The successful candidate will join the three-year Human Factors graduate programme in Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail in October 2024.
We will provide you with the learning, development, mentoring and support to attain the expertise level required for Chartership with the UK Chartered Institute of Ergonomics & Human Factors (CIEHF) and the opportunity to develop along excellent career paths.

The Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail Human Factors Graduate Programme

Based in the Safety Directorate, you will work within our Human Factors team providing expert input on cross-functional safety and human performance. You will be part of our drive to integrate human factors in frontline safety management and major new projects and initiatives.
In a typical day, you may be out with train drivers collecting data on what they experience, working with our training school to develop and deliver Human Factors training, doing task analyses on our controllers, analysing the potential impact of new automated systems, analysing data on the influencing factors in accidents and incidents, or taking part in initiatives to promote a positive safety culture. This is a very dynamic, hands on programme - where you will be working directly with our Head of Human Factors, Nora Balfe and the specialist team.

Essential qualities:

  • Relevant qualifications in Human Factors, ideally a qualifying course under the CIEHF but we will also consider applicants from a psychology, safety or engineering background with relevant experience.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Motivated and proactive in pursuit of excellence
  • Strong analytical ability and data analysis skills
  • Knowledge of at least three of the following human factors topics: 
    • Human factors integration
    • Task analysis
    • Workload assessment
    • HMI design and usability assessment
    • Non-technical skills development
    • Human error or human reliability assessment
    • Physical ergonomics assessment
    • Safety and just culture

Desirable qualities:

  • Experience in the rail or transport sector
  • Membership of the Irish Human Factors & Ergonomics Society, the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors, or another Human Factors professional body
