Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail App launched in Huawei AppGallery

Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail in partnership with Huawei and HaCon - A Siemens Company are delighted to launch the official Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail mobile app in Huawei’s AppGallery.
Huawei customers can now download and access the latest version of our app to get journey planner, live departure and arrival information and train and commuter push notification to their device.
Huawei are one of the world's most popular mobile phone producers with 14% market share in Ireland. Due to restrictions in recent years Huawei have developed their own mobile ecosystem called Huawei Mobile Services (HMS). One part of this is AppGallery which now has over 45k apps and growing with over 530 million active monthly users worldwide.
Now the Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail mobile app is available in Huawei’s AppGallery as well as Google’s Play Store and Apple’s App Store. Our app is FREE to download and will provide all of our customers with the following features:
- Support for HMS, Android and iOS versions
- Improved app design
- New side bar navigation
- New personalisation tools
- Journey planner (timetables) functionality and new tools
- Live departure and arrival information including new tools to enable you to control the presentation of results on screen
- Identification of nearby stations based on current location
- Details of intermediate stations and whether there are any changes on route
- Save and Favourite functions for destinations and routes including auto-history for past queries
- Re-entry on last screen when leaving or re-starting the application
- Live maps of train movements and new tools to improve user experience
- New Home Screen - The app will now open on the home screen with four modules selectable. The user can modify the order of the home screen or delete modules is chosen
- Trip Alarm – this new feature allows the user to subscribe to push notifications alerts for a train when it is delayed. The user can choose to receive notifications from 20 minutes up to an hour in advance of the scheduled departure time. In addition, the extent of the delay can be configured to send for delays starting from at least 5 minutes late up to at least 15 minutes late. The alerts can be setup to send on any day of the week or all depending on the user’s specifications
- Commuter alarms – this feature notifies regular commuters of disruptions between Station A and Station B during a predetermined timeframe decided by the customer. Any train that serves both the origin and destination that is delayed during the timeframe selected by the user will send alerts like the trip alarms.
- Hop on/off Alerts - For the user subscribing to a specific train the app will advise them via push notification, using the latest Real-Time Information, when to get ready to board and exit the train. This type of alert will be useful for customers with accessibility issues particularly if there is PA issues on-board a service.
- In-App Purchasing – A ‘Book Now’ option has been provided on the side navigation section and on the home screen. A deep link brings the user into the mobile optimised version of the Journey Planner. A native in app option is planned for Q2 2021
All users of our current apps are encouraged to download the latest version where possible. However, some users on older devices may not be able to download the latest app version. The old app will still work for a time but we are not guaranteeing availability or performance as they are no longer supported.
