Assistant Project Manager (MetroLink Interface) Capital Investment Division – Iarnród Éireann

Iarnród Éireann (IÉ) is seeking applications for the position of Assistant Project Manager to play a key role in the management of the IÉ MetroLink interfaces at Glasnevin and Tara Street. These project interfaces introduce complex design and operational interdependencies that require careful coordination to ensure technical alignment, operational compatibility, and effective programme delivery, while minimising impacts on IÉ’s programme of works, existing assets and day to day service operations.
This role presents a unique opportunity to contribute to one of Ireland’s most transformative public transport initiatives. The successful candidate will work within the Capital Investments Division, supporting the Programme Manager in managing technical coordination, commercial management, stakeholder engagement, and multidisciplinary design activities associated with these interfaces.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the planning, coordination, and delivery of IÉ/MetroLink interface works across design, enabling works and construction phase.
- Manage technical interfaces between IÉ’s and MetroLink project teams.
- Assist in the review and approval of technical submissions, designs, method statements, and other documentation as required.
- Liaise with IÉ Stakeholders to ensure compliance with Iarnród Éireann standards, policies, and safety approval processes.
- Support effective contract management, ensuring compliance with procurement policies and contractual obligations.
- Monitor budgets, schedules, and risks, providing accurate reports to support decision-making.
- Communicate and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, legal, MetroLink Client Partner, and internal Stakeholders to optimize interface performance and overall delivery.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations, industry standards, and statutory requirements.
- Participate in project safety reviews, audits, and risk assessments.
- Undertaking such tasks, activities or other duties as may be required or assigned appropriate to the grade.
Essential Requirements
- A Building, Engineering, Construction or Project Management degree or equivalent (Level 8 or Level 9).
- Member of Engineers Ireland or other relevant professional body.
- Minimum of 5 years’ project engineering experience in railways or a similar engineering environment.
- Relevant general management and project management experience.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent analytical, numeracy, and IT skills, with knowledge of relevant software tools.
- Demonstrable ability to manage and deliver infrastructure / building projects.
- A full driving licence and ability to attend site works as required.
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Experience in managing large, complex, multi-disciplinary projects, preferably in a railway environment.
- Knowledge of railway infrastructure, systems, and operations.
- Familiarity with NEC4, CWMF, and Public Works forms of contract.
- Experience managing design consultants and contractors.
- Ability to produce tender documentation.
- Understanding of Iarnród Éireann and National Transport Authority Project Management Procedures.
- Knowledge of the Construction Regulations.
- A good working knowledge of applicable National and European safety, planning and environmental legislation.
- Ability to produce tender documentation for consultancy services and for works.
