About the Role
Iarnrod Eireann is seeking a Security Enterprise Architect to define and guide the enterprise security architecture that protects critical technology services and supports ongoing business transformation.
This is a senior architecture role working across business, technology, security, and delivery teams. The successful candidate will shape security architecture principles, standards, and roadmaps, ensuring that technology solutions are secure, resilient, scalable, and aligned with organisational objectives.
What You Will Do
- Define and maintain the enterprise security architecture vision, principles, standards, and frameworks.
- Translate business requirements and strategic priorities into practical, secure, and cost-effective architecture solutions.
- Design and oversee security architecture across enterprise platforms, infrastructure, cloud, data, applications, and operational technology where relevant.
- Provide architecture leadership and guidance to security architects, solution architects, technical specialists, and delivery teams.
- Work closely with senior stakeholders, business teams, ICT, delivery partners, and external suppliers to ensure security is embedded in technology decisions.
- Assess the quality, performance, risk profile, and compliance of security architecture and recommend improvements.
- Evaluate emerging security technologies, threats, and trends, and identify opportunities to strengthen the organisation's security posture.
- Produce clear architecture documentation, decision records, standards, and reports for technical and non-technical audiences.
What We Are Looking For
- Strong experience in enterprise security architecture, solution design, and technology delivery.
- Ability to align security architecture with business strategy, operational needs, and regulatory obligations.
- Broad knowledge of security architecture across cloud, identity and access management, network security, data security, application security, cyber resilience, and governance.
- Experience leading or mentoring architects, engineers, or technical specialists.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to communicate security architecture clearly to senior leaders and delivery teams.
- Practical knowledge of relevant security standards, regulatory expectations, and architecture frameworks.
- Experience in transport, critical infrastructure, utilities, public sector, or another complex regulated environment would be advantageous.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, information systems, engineering, cybersecurity, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- Significant experience in IT security architecture, enterprise architecture, solution architecture, or cybersecurity leadership.
- Relevant professional certification such as CISSP, CISM, SABSA, GICSP, or equivalent is desirable.
- Familiarity with project and delivery methodologies such as Agile, Waterfall, Scrum, or hybrid delivery models.
- Experience with major technology platforms and cloud services such as Microsoft, AWS, Azure, Oracle, IBM, or equivalent.
