Major upgrade for Millstreet Station Car Park set to begin
Iarnród Éireann has today confirmed that a significant upgrade to Millstreet Station Car Park, which will provide 46 additional parking spots, will commence this month and be completed by Spring 2027.
Adding to the parking spots currently available at Millstreet Station, this upgrade will more than triple the parking capacity, improve accessibility and greatly enhance the station facilities by:
- Adding 46 parking spaces to the existing car park including five disability parking spots and infrastructure to support seven EV charging spots
- Providing ten bicycle parking spaces and a bike shelter
- Delivering a bus set down/interchange facility
Following planning approval in late 2025 and completion of the procurement process over the past number of months, Kenaidan Contractors Ltd have been awarded the €2.3 million construction contract for the Millstreet Car Park works. Works are beginning this week, and planned completion is April 2027.
This planned upgrade is part of Iarnród Éireann’s national Car Park expansion programme. Funded by the Department of Transport, through the National Transport Authority, the network wide car park expansion programme is improving access on foot, by bike and by bus to and at railway stations and addressing capacity issues where applicable.
Speaking today, Colin Grimes, Programme Manager for Network Enhancements said: “The upgrade at Millstreet station will ensure more customers can more easily access rail transport. My team and I are looking forward to commencing this enhancement project and to working with Kenaidan Contractors Ltd to deliver this upgrade for rail customers.”
