What are the conditions of travel?

Customers who hold a Free Travel / DSFA Pass can book on their chosen service by selecting the 'Free Travel Pass' option in the Passenger selection box. Customers are advised there is limited availability for Free Travel bookings online.

  • You can purchase the ticket above using our Journey Planner. Tickets can only be purchased up to 90 days in advance.
  • An allocation of bookings on all InterCity services can be reserved online without a fee for 'Free Travel Pass or valid ticket holders'. When this allocation is fully booked, all remaining seats can be reserved by 'Free Travel Pass or valid ticket holders' for €2.50 per journey.

What are the conditions of travel?

Where there is doubt regarding the age qualification, it is the responsibility of the passenger or their guardian or parent to produce satisfactory evidence of age when requested by any Iarnród Éireann staff member. Amendments and cancellations are subject to the fare purchased ie Low, Semi Flexible, Flexible, First Class. 

Children under 5 years travel free in standard class on any Iarnród Éireann services when accompanied by a passenger holding a valid ticket, provided children do not occupy seats required for paying passengers. Failure to produce a valid ticket, appropriate ID or surcharge where necessary will result in a fine of €100 together with the relevant unpaid fare.

  • Customers must be in possession of a  TFI Young Adult (19-25 years) Leap Card or a TFI Student Leap Card to avail of student discounted tickets
  • Individual third level institution cards or ISIC cards are no longer accepted as valid forms of ID
  • Amendments and cancellations are subject to the fare purchased ie Low, Semi Flexible, Flexible, First Class
  • Failure to produce a valid ticket, appropriate valid ID or surcharge where necessary will result in a fine and the relevant unpaid fare.

Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail is seeking applications for the position of Assistant Project Manager – Design & Construction within the Capital Investments Division. This role will support the delivery of key infrastructure projects across the Irish rail network, ensuring work is completed on time, within budget, and to the required standards.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing team responsible for delivering transformative transport infrastructure. You will contribute to a dynamic programme of works and gain experience in small, medium and large-scale capital projects as part of the largest investment in our network to date.

Responsibilities:

  • Engineering: Assist the Programme Manager, Network Enhancements, in the development of Infrastructure. Responsibility in your area of control for the feasibility work, design, planning, procurement, construction, commissioning and handover of projects. Responsible for ensuring that projects are managed in accordance with defined project management and control procedures.
  • Safety Compliance: Uphold safety responsibilities as outlined in the Safety Management System (SMS), conduct project audits and safety tours, and ensure all designs and works are compliant with statutory health and safety requirements.
  • People: Manage your team, where applicable, to ensure that responsibilities and priorities are appropriately assigned to achieve your safety and project objectives. Lead and provide all necessary support to staff to enable the execution of their role.
  • Contract & Risk Management: Implement and monitor project and contract control mechanisms, manage occupational and asset-related risks, and ensure appropriate safety assurance processes are followed throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Financial Oversight: Plan, monitor, and report on project finances, manage budgets, and ensure all expenditures are properly authorised and aligned with Iarnród Éireann’s procurement policies.

Essential Requirements

  • A Building, Engineering, Construction or Project Management degree or equivalent (Level 8 or Level 9).
  • Member of Engineers Ireland or other relevant professional body.
  • Minimum of 5 years project engineering experience in a relevant engineering environment.
  • Strong leadership, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
  • Relevant general management and project management experience.
  • Demonstrable ability to manage and deliver infrastructure / building projects.
  • Demonstrable ability to produce and manage budgets
  • A full driving licence
  • Availability to work occasional weekend and/or night shifts

Desirable:

  • Experience in the management of complex, multi-disciplinary projects preferably in a railway environment;
  • A good working knowledge of railway infrastructure and systems;
  • Knowledge of contract drafting, management and law, in particular experience with the Capital Works Management Framework (CWMF) and Public Works suite of contracts;
  • Experience in the delivery of Railway Safety certification to include the Commission for Railway Regulation’s Authorisation for Placing In Service (APIS) process and Iarnród Éireann’s Safety Management Standard, IM-SMS-014;
  • A good working knowledge of applicable National and European safety, planning and environmental legislation
  • Understanding of Iarnród Éireann and National Transport Authority Project Management Procedures.
  • Experience of production and management of funding applications for the National Transport Authority.
  • Knowledge of the Construction Regulations.
  • Ability to produce tender documentation for consultancy services and for works.
  • Experience of new build and building refurbishment projects.
