Dublin inner city community campaign pledges policy of Zero Tolerance to Violence Against Women
Those who have passed through Dublin’s Connolly Station recently will have noticed a visible change to the station area with the installation of two public artworks, created by Artists Fionnula Halpin and Horhay Design.
As a member of Dublin Town, Iarnród Éireann is supporting the Zero Tolerance pledge to combat violence against women. We are adding our voice to the network of community groups, businesses and individuals across Dublin fostering a culture of safety and respect for women in our capital city and beyond.
With the short and longer-term art installations in place, we are adding a visual representation of Iarnród Éireann’s commitment to the pledge, to bring the zero tolerance message to tens of thousands who pass through one of our busiest stations every day.
Zero Tolerance is a community campaign, primarily focused on violence perpetrated by men against women. It also highlights domestic abuse in the LGBTI+ community and incidents carried out by women against men, an under reported issue.
Iarnród Éireann Chief Executive Jim Meade said
“Society, communities and workplaces that are safe for women are inherently safer and better for us all. Iarnród Éireann is headquartered here in Connolly Station in Dublin 1, at the heart of our vibrant city. But we know that too often hidden within that busy, bustling facade is the fear and terror generated by gender-based violence. We are honoured to join with the Dublin community groups and Dublin Town who have pioneered this campaign to add our voice in solidarity with the message of safety and respect for women in our capital.”
