Project Engineer(s) - Chief Mechanical Engineers Department

It’s an exciting time to join Irish Rail’s dynamic Chief Mechanical Engineer’s (CME) Department. We are now inviting applications for the role of Project Engineer.
Iarnród Éireann is building for a future where rail plays an even greater role in meeting Ireland’s transport, economic and environmental needs. Supported by the National Transport Authority and funded under Project Ireland 2040, we are delivering major investment across trains, infrastructure, stations and customer service as part of the National Development Plan, with further investment to follow.
- Key elements of this investment include:
Up to 790 new train carriages, including up to 600 electric or battery-electric units, to meet growing demand - Investment in track, signalling and level crossings to increase frequency and reduce journey times
- New Stations and upgraded existing stations, including improved accessibility and car park facilities
As part of the CME Projects Team the Project Engineer(s) will play a central role in the delivery of the new rollingstock and associated infrastructure through all stages of from development of technical specifications, support the procurement process, and the management all technical aspects of project delivery through to vehicle introduction into service.
The CME Department provides a critical function within the Railway Undertaking, operating in a high‑compliance, fast‑paced environment with multiple competing all organisational levels and drive a “One Team” approach to Customer Experience Excellence.

Essential Criteria
Candidates must demonstrate:
- Mechanical or Electrical / Electronic Engineering Degree (Level 8)
- Technical knowledge / skills and experience working in a highly regulated, safety conscious industry
- Strong communication skills (including presentation skills)
- Ability to manage resources and plan
- Safety focus and knowledge
- Ability to work on own initiative
- Negotiation skills
- Project delivery skills / experience
- Willingness to travel abroad for short and extended periods
Desirable criteria
- A minimum of five years’ experience working in industry in an engineering role

Please note: Some benefits apply only upon becoming a regular member of staff. Successful Candidates will initially be offered a 12-month Fixed Term Contract.
