Customers who hold a Free Travel / DSFA Pass can book on their chosen service by selecting the 'Free Travel Pass' option in the Passenger selection box. Customers are advised there is limited availability for Free Travel bookings online.

  • You can purchase the ticket above using our Journey Planner. Tickets can only be purchased up to 90 days in advance.
  • An allocation of bookings on all InterCity services can be reserved online without a fee for 'Free Travel Pass or valid ticket holders'. When this allocation is fully booked, all remaining seats can be reserved by 'Free Travel Pass or valid ticket holders' for €2.50 per journey.

What are the conditions of travel?

Where there is doubt regarding the age qualification, it is the responsibility of the passenger or their guardian or parent to produce satisfactory evidence of age when requested by any Iarnród Éireann staff member. Amendments and cancellations are subject to the fare purchased ie Low, Semi Flexible, Flexible, First Class. 

Children under 5 years travel free in standard class on any Iarnród Éireann services when accompanied by a passenger holding a valid ticket, provided children do not occupy seats required for paying passengers. Failure to produce a valid ticket, appropriate ID or surcharge where necessary will result in a fine of €100 together with the relevant unpaid fare.

*Children aged 5 to 8 can now travel free on Transport for Ireland (TFI) services with a Child (5-8) TFI Leap Card. For more information and to apply, please visit the Leap Card website.

What are the conditions of travel?

  • Customers must be in possession of a  TFI Young Adult (19-25 years) Leap Card or a TFI Student Leap Card to avail of student discounted tickets
  • Individual third level institution cards or ISIC cards are no longer accepted as valid forms of ID
  • Amendments and cancellations are subject to the fare purchased ie Low, Semi Flexible, Flexible, First Class
  • Failure to produce a valid ticket, appropriate valid ID or surcharge where necessary will result in a fine and the relevant unpaid fare.

Programme Construction Safety Lead - Capital Investments

Iarnród Éireann is seeking an experienced Programme Construction Safety Lead (PCSL) The PCSL is responsible for ensuring compliance on all matters relating to safety performance across the programme of works, ensuring the highest standards of safety are implemented on a consistent basis. The role will involve:

Role Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the Head of Safety in the development and implementation of the Safety Management System, and Departmental Safety Plan, in line with company policy, procedure and legal obligations.
  • Assisting the Head of Safety to ensure Capital Investments (CI) is compliant with legislative responsibilities and industry best practice.
  • Working in a proactive manner with Project Delivery Teams, including associated supply chain partners (Design and Construction), to ensure appropriate levels of support to, and oversight of, safety standards at project level.
  • Leading the assessment of competence in respect of statutory appointments to the roles of Project Supervisor Design Process (PSDP) and Project Supervisor Construction Stage (PSCS), whilst ensuring compliance throughout performance of the respective roles.
  • Managing the safety related document management systems, including Permit to Work, to ensure all CI projects have the required safety documentation in place.
  • Incident investigation oversight to ensure issues are addressed in a timely manner and lessons-learned are shared and implemented across the organisation, in support of creating a consistent approach to safety management and development.
  • Providing support for the business on cross-functional safety matters, including safety assessments at tender stage, review of contractors’ submissions (rams/method statements).
  • Providing support for the business on cross-functional safety matters, including occupational safety (training, risk assessment, briefings).
  • Reporting on safety performance of the programme using suitable key performance indicators, to facilitate production of Trend Reports.
  • Liaising with the Head of Safety to Produce periodic reports, up to and including Board level performance reporting.
  • Conducting site safety audits, assessments, and inspections on all projects within the programme, and across the CI portfolio of projects as required.
  • Assisting the Head of Safety on other safety related activities across the CI Portfolio, as required.

Essential Criteria/Required Competencies:

  • Knowledge and experience of construction safety legislation and audit procedures.
  • Excellent working knowledge of construction Safety Management Systems, Risk Assessments, Safety Statements and RAMSA/Method Statements.
  • Team Player, with strong leadership skills and an ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams to ensure highest standards of safety performance.
  • Excellent communication and people skills.
  • Strong organisational skills with a positive, can-do and flexible work attitude.
  • Excellent written communication and report writing capability, utilising the MS Office suite.
  • Third level Safety and Health qualifications – minimum requirement at diploma level or equivalent.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience, with at least 5 years’ in a Safety Management role(s) within the Construction sector.

Desirable criteria:

  • Knowledge of the Companies structure and business units.
  • Working knowledge of Iarnród Éireann’s Safety Management Systems.
  • Audit qualification.
  • Investigation qualification.
