Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Champion

The Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications chose us as one of just 26 SDG Champions for 2023/24. This means that they see us as a leader in helping Ireland to achieve the SDGs set out by the UN. We are proud to get this recognition for our work.

Sustainability is at the heart of our work. We aim to be at the core of the Irish sustainable transport network. We are excited to learn from, and share our own insights with other Champions as we merge the SDGs with our day to day operations.

As an SDG Champion we must:

  • Advocate for the SDGs and the climate change agenda
  • Act as a good example of how to achieve the SDGs and integrate them into a workplace (something we strive for daily)
  • Share what we learn with others to help them to achieve the SDGs

Refill Your Bottle Before Travel

Reduce your plastic use

We want to make the sustainable choice the easy choice on board our services.

We now have Ecofill water units at eight of our busiest stations. These contactless units dispense high quality, triple filtered drinking water free of charge.

We encourage people to bring their own bottle and refill before they travel with us. When you choose to refill your bottle, you help to make a cleaner planet.

Below are the stations with Ecofill units. They were chosen as they get the most foot fall and so, can reduce more plastic on our services. Plans are in place to roll out these units to more stations in the future.

  • Athlone
  • Bray
  • Drogheda
  • Dublin Connolly
  • Dublin Heuston
  • Dublin Pearse
  • Dundalk
  • Galway
  • Killarney
  • Limerick Junction
  • Malahide
  • Mallow
  • Tralee

1 million plastic bottles are sold each minute worldwide. Less than 10% of plastic produced is recycled. As of now, 11 million metric tons of plastic are dumped in the ocean each year. This is projected to 2x by 2030 and nearly 3x by 2040. This is not sustainable for the planet. Let’s work together to reduce our plastic use!

Find out about Ecofill units and the top-quality triple filtered water they dispense.
