Iarnród Éireann is at the heart of Ireland’s transport network, delivering safe, sustainable, and customer-focused rail services across the country. As we continue to innovate and evolve, we are seeking an experienced accountant for the position of Head of Finance – Central Functions.
The Role
This senior position is responsible for all financial aspects relating to Central Functions, including reporting, planning and analysis, audit management, financial governance and driving innovation in financial processes. The successful candidate will also produce the consolidated financial reporting and planning for the organisation and act as a finance advisor to Central Functions senior management.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the production of accurate and timely period and annual management accounts and financial statements for Central Functions and Iarnród Éireann
- Manage the production of internal and external financial reporting for Senior Leadership team, Board, Audit & Risk Committee, Department of Transport, and National Transport Authority
- Provide strategic financial advice and insight to senior leaders across Corporate Services, Safety, and Information Technology
- Drive continuous improvement and innovation in finance operations and reporting processes
- Ensure compliance with Codes of Practice, accounting standards (FRS102), and Revenue requirements
- Lead and develop a high-performing finance team with a focus on talent development and succession planning
- Maintain effective stakeholder relationships with internal teams and external partners
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and five-year planning processes for Central Functions and the preparation of companywide reports
Key Requirements
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
- A professional accounting qualification, with at least ten years’ post qualification experience working in a similar sized organisation at a senior finance level
- Demonstrable strong financial and business management skills including people management, commercial management, and financial control
- Strong corporate governance, aptitude and commercial experience required
- Proven technical skills – accounting (FRS102), reporting internally and externally, analytical, governance and regulatory compliance
- Strategic decision maker to influence policy decisions at business levels
- Demonstrate project and change management skills
- Strong SAP ERP Financial.
