The future of Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail
At Iarnród Éireann, we’re driving a once-in-a-generation transformation— positioning rail at the heart of Ireland’s sustainable transport future through the Irish Rail Strategy 2050.
Our people are central to delivering this ambitious vision—across modern infrastructure upgrades, next-generation fleet development, customer experience innovation, and strategic port connections.
We are now seeking passionate graduates to become part of our ‘One Team’—supporting the delivery of safe, reliable, and future-ready rail services nationwide. This is your chance to be part of a dynamic team building a greener, smarter, and more connected Ireland.
The successful candidate will join the two-year graduate scheme in Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail on a competitive salary with support and mentoring to develop along excellent career paths.
The Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail Health and Safety Graduate Programme
Based between the Safety Directorate and Heads of Health and Safety in our Infrastructure, Train Operations and Capital Investments Departments, you will work within our Health and Safety teams providing input on cross-functional safety performance. You will be part of our drive to integrate and imbed the Safety Management Systems into frontline safety management and play a major part in the implementation of initiatives designed to improve our safety culture.
In a typical day, you may be carrying out any one, or combination of the following activities:
- on site visits to our depots or stations to conduct safety tours,
- trackside reviewing safe systems of work around track and signalling installation, maintenance and renewal within construction sites on the railway
- writing safety notices or processes,
- attending safety meetings,
- conducting risk assessments and audits,
- assisting in gathering of evidence for an investigation,
- analysing data to produce safety trends and guide future initiatives or interventions,
- researching international best practice initiatives,
- working on one of the many initiatives to improve safety across the company
There could be occasional out of hours/night-time and weekend safety tours.
We will provide you with mentoring and support over the two years of the graduate programme, as well as access to internal training and development opportunities.
