Location: Inchicore, Dublin 8

Salary: €74k-€89K (Commensurate with suitable Qualification and Experience)

Contract Hours: 36-hour per week.

Contract Duration: Fixed Term leading to permanency.

Annual Leave Entitlement: 25 days per annum, rising to 28 based on service.

Iarnród Éireann is seeking a Senior Permanent Way Designer to join the CCE Technical Department Approvals team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design and development of railway track infrastructure across the national rail network, supporting capacity enhancement, renewals, and new infrastructure projects. The role covers all design stages, from feasibility through detailed design, ensuring safe, reliable, and sustainable permanent way solutions in line with Irish Rail standards and regulatory requirements.

In addition to in-house design delivery, the role includes the technical review and assurance of third-party track designs, ensuring they are fully compliant with Irish Rail standards and are correctly integrated with existing assets and other railway systems.

Essential Requirements:

  • Professional Engineering qualification (Civil / Railway Engineering or equivalent)
  • Minimum 3–5 years’ relevant experience in track or civil engineering design.
  • Knowledge of railway permanent way systems, standards, and interfaces.
  • Knowledge of track construction methods, tolerances, and maintenance requirements.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar track design software.
  • Experience in a railway design office environment.

Desirable:

  • Understanding of Iarnród Éireann standards and approval processes
  • Familiarity with Construction Regulations and health & safety in design
